The Animals That Need More Love

Jun 3, 2015 | Cats, Disease and Symptoms, Dogs, Pet Care, Pet Safety, Pet Tips

Each pet is unique and can quickly become a beloved family member. This is no different when you have a special needs pet. Some animals are born with a disability, while others may develop one later in life. Luckily, a disability doesn’t make a pet love you any less. They may require a little extra TLC, but can still be the perfect fit for your household. There are a few tips that can make it easier for you and your special needs pet to be happy and healthy.

IS YOUR PET BLIND?
  • Talk to them so they know you’re close and are not startled by you
  • Avoid making any big changes around the house and block stairways until your pet has figured out how to navigate your house
  • Without their eyesight other senses are stronger; use smell or sounds to play with your pet
DOES YOUR PET HAVE HIP OR JOINT PROBLEMS?
  • Keep your pet warm and comfortable, this will help lessen joint pain
  • Massage your pets joints or muscles to relieve hip pain
  • Make sure things are easily accessible to your pet; food dishes are at a comfortable height, litter boxes aren’t too tall and the outdoors don’t require a lot of navigating to get to
OTHER TIPS FOR YOUR SPECIAL NEEDS PET

• Remember, you can still play with your pet!
• Learn as much as you can about the special need so you can have a better understanding of it
